Antelope Park & School, Oct 6, 2012

This will be a short blog, but many pictures that will speak to the great day we had at the Antelope Park, which is in reality a recovery place for lions and a lodge for humans. Near the end of the day when we were all too tired to go on they took us to a elementary school where the children brought us all to back to life. And my most proud moment was when Shirley stood up in front of everyone and made a speech thanking the students and staff and parents: She was awesome!!!!
Just a few points so the pictures make sense:
1) We walked and sat beside two female lions who had just in the previous week made their first kill of a wildebeest. Shirley was the first to sit beside one of the lions and was able to pet her. The second person tried to do the same thing and the lion made a snap at her, so our guides said no one else could touch the lions.
2) We had several guides with us at all times who had sticks to beat off any of the lions if they went nuts!!
3) One of the baby lions did bite Shirley's arm, but didn't puncture the skin.
4) Feeding the lions was short and gruesome, but reality!(see video at end of pictures)
5) The two lions who get most of the food are brothers and are the dominate ones in this enclosure.
6) This school has so little but boy are these kids sharp!!
7) I have tried to attach a video that should appear after the last picture - if it is there you will see why this was a great place to visit! We were within a metre and half of the lion feed!! No kidding!!!!

  1. Cool video, John! did that female just put all those males in their places?

Noticed one male grabbed food slung it aside and went after more!

Interesting! What a great adventure you are both having! I love Africa and want to go back someday!
