Mozambique is to be our beach town with the Indian Ocean. However when
we got to Maputo, the capital it was pouring down rain and did so for
the next one and half days. So just about everything they had organized
for us was cancelled. We drove around the city for awhile and saw the
big pools of water on the roads and how the infra-structure needs
complete upgrading! Spent lots of time in a shopping mall where john got
his hair cut. Went to a fort with a fine collection of art and old canons and then to the Museum where Shirley and I
skipped out and went over to a hotel called the Cardoso to use their
internet. Saw some fishers on the beach front catching some fish. Went back to train and then out to a seafood dinner organized
by the train. Only so-so, but Shirley got a fresh plate of prawns cooked
especially for her!! Still pouring down rain. Next day same thing. New
mall where Shirley decided to get pedicure. Took an extra 1/2 hour so we
missed the bus. But so did the Portuguese folks. So they came back an
hour and half later to pick us up. Hannie and Franz were with the driver so
we talked him into taking us to the Cardoso Hotel so we could use the
internet again. We also decided to have lunch, which turned out to be a
buffet! It was fantastic!! Great food and as it turned out the
Portuguese folks began to warm up to us or us to them and we had a great
lunch. A little on the expensive side - but as Shirley always says "you
get what you pay for!" We were late once again so the driver took the
others back to the train and came back for us. When we got to the train
the sun was out and it was now muggy and warm. SO Shirley and I decided
to go to the "train station beach" and sun bath!! All the other guests
on the train had a great laugh and took pictures of us. Another day in
Africa!! A Again the pictures got mixed up but I am sure can tell which is where.
